Lari
The village, surrounded by a wall with three gates, is characterized by the massive size of the castle of the Vicars, of medieval although the present structure dates from the seventeenth century. Because of its dominant position in the castle was an important military stronghold of the Republic of Pisa until his fall in Florence (1406). Later the castle became the residence of the Vicars, governors and members of Florentine families, who transformed it into a private residence of the rulers of Tuscany from the Medicis to Lorraine.
In and around a network of paths allows you to discover interesting places and landscapes, as Usigliano, which boasts a museum of agricultural activities, or Casciana High, with the Romanesque church of San Nicola in Sessana and the Oratory of the Madonna della Cava.
Lari is famous for its cherries, which is dedicated to the traditional festival of the end of May. The cherry of Lari boasts 19 varieties taste different and intense. In the village square local producers are selling baskets of cherries, jams and liqueurs made from red fruit.
While at the hill the main activity is agriculture with olive groves, vineyards and orchards, in plain Perignano City Interior is known nationally for furniture factories and showrooms, with over 100,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Already in medieval village and castle, Lorenzana is located in a place where you can see the whole profile of the Pisan Hills. Surrounded by greenery, preserves appearance typical hill town.
Next to the Church of St. Bartholomew and Christopher find the ancient Palazzo dei Lorenzi, that during the rule of Florence was the seat of the Podestà. Today the building is occupied by private dwellings.
The main activity of the area is agriculture, producing cereals, olives and wine grapes, so that in mid-September there is the traditional Festival of Grapes and Wine, where you can taste traditional dishes accompanied by local wine.
Nearby you report the villa-estate accounts Sforni Villa Giulia and the adjacent church with the Romanesque period. Colle Alberti Vicchio and ancient towns are places on hill slopes that are worth a visit for fresh surroundings.
