Capannoli Capannoli

Capannoli, medieval village, is located on the slope of a hill overlooking the valley of the river was. In a position of great importance in ancient times, it was first developed as a fortified village, then as a center devoted to trade and economic issues.

On top of the hill called "castle", where the fortress once stood, there is Villa Baciocchi style building late baroque and neo-classical botanical garden where there are 160 different types of exotic plants and centuries old.

The villa has a Zoological Museum and an interesting exhibition of Archaeological Documentation Centre which illustrates the area's history from prehistory to the Middle Ages, with a section dedicated to the Etruscan necropolis from the area.

Inside the park, on the second Sunday of September, there is the traditional National Bird Fair.

Of historical importance, the fraction of the Santo Pietro Belvedere still retains a medieval fortified village urban structure.

Nearby is the 'Era Airfield, home of the Aeroclub Pisa a flight school that specializes in ultralight aircraft.
