HOW TO GET THERE:

CAR: Take the Pisa-Florence, exit at Pontedera-Ponsacco, continue along the SS439 in the direction of Volterra-Pomarance.

COACHES: CPT suburban destination Castelnuovo Val di Cecina.

DESCRIPTION:

Known as Ripomarancia until the fourteenth century or later Ripomarance Pomarance, was the center of legal battle for its possession between the bishops and the town of Volterra.

At the heart of the Val di Cecina on the spur which separates the valley of Trossa has evolved from medieval to modern city.

Here was born painter and architect Cristoforo Roncalli, known as Pomarancio.

In the medieval village is the three gates, the square of San Dalmazio Mugnaini and the house of Ricci-twelfth century.

The church of San Giovanni Battista-five houses works of the seventeenth century Pomarancio.

The town hall, originally from the fourteenth century, has many arms of the XV and XVI.

On the main street there are some Renaissance and the great palace of the family de Larderel.

The village of Larderello, with the geothermal industry in the "Valley of the Devil", is known for the exploitation of the geysers.

The Museo de Larderel illustrates the vicissitudes of these geothermal use by man.
